"One of my favorite solo cello works is Lars Halle's composition. The process of creation was very enjoyable. As different sections were being conceived, I had a chance to play through them and make suggestions that got the piece to blend idiomatic writing with some challenging, but fun passages. Personally, I like when a piece stretches my abilities as a performer, and Lars' piece has some wicked string crossings that are very effective in displaying high cello virtuosity, as well as melodic lines exploiting the lyrical qualities of the instrument.
