Lars
Halle
Drummer and leader Lars Halle founded the Lars Halle Jazz Orchestra in
January 2000
after receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Performance from the
University of the Arts in 1996.
Lars has performed with such jazz greats as Phil Woods, Dave Samuels,
Arturo Sandoval,
Allen Vizzutti, Phil Wilson, Rob McConnell, and Steve Turre. His work
as a composer/arranger has been
performed, among others, by Jon Faddis, Kurt Elling, Bobby Shew, Ray
Anderson, and Rob McConnell.
Holding on to his Swedish roots, Lars also writes for several Swedish
big bands,
such as the Sandviken Big
Band, and the Lasse Lindgren
Big Connstellation
Many of Lars' compositions are published by Kendor Music Inc.
Besides the LHJO, Lars also plays regularly with Big Swing Face, Kaktus,
the Sextet, and the Lars Halle Trio.
In 2000, he took second place in the first annual Swedish Big Band
Composition Competition, Jazzverk.
In addition to leading and writing for the LHJO, Lars is a Music
Library Supervisor at the UArts
Music Library in Philadelphia. During the summers, he teaches jazz and
percussion in the
Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts Music Department. In
Philadelphia he also acts as
Vice-President of Side One Jazz
Programs.
