1. Does the LHJO ever perform with fewer
people than 17?
No. At least not under the same
name. The music is scored for 17 people, and reducing the number
of musicians would greatly compromise the artistic integrity of the
music. Each player has his/her own part and these parts are
independently crucial to the LHJO sound.
2. Does the LHJO play weddings?
We could. Though it has to be
understood that we are not a "swing" band. Our original music is
high-spirited and energized, but not necessarily well-suited for
dancing. Even the standard repertoire selections in our book are
of a high- caliber, high-intensity flavor. Also, please note that the LHJO does
not perform Top 40 music.
3. Is the LHJO suitable for a cocktail
event?
I would have to say no. If you
want people to mingle and chat, a group of 17 musicians would be quite
distracting. Even if we played our most subdued selections, people
tend to become mesmerized by the sheer sight of the ensemble, and they
watch, rather than mingle.
4. Does the LHJO take requests?
Generally no, unless you're requesting
something you know we already have in our book. In order for a
band this large not to sound chaotic, all selections have to be
meticulously arranged, and each musician assigned a particular
part. Even the best of musicians couldn't just "wing it" and fake
their way through a tune that is not in our repertoire, even if it is a popular big band tune.
5. Can I sing with the LHJO?
It's a possibility, provided the
following criteria is met: You'll have to have your own big band
arrangements in your possession. You'll have to audition.
You'll have to have an event lined up. Please refer to the event
PDF for instructions on how to hire the LHJO for an event.
6. Can I play with the LHJO?
Again,
it is possible. If you're looking to play in one of the sections,
you'll have to understand that the members are permanent. This
said, we are always in need for stand-ins as the steady musicians are
often unavailable to do certain dates. We have an extensive list
of "subs" and to get on this list, you would need to do some sort of
audition.
If you're looking to appear as a
soloist with the band, please refer to the event PDF for instructions
on how to hire the LHJO for an event.
